This was announced by Portafolio on its web portal. This new service could be offered as an independent operator or perhaps as a provider for telecommunications companies already existing in the country.

Starlink is one of the billionaire’s companies whose purpose is to bring the Internet to the most remote and hard-to-reach areas. In fact, their focus is determined to reach rural and remote areas, so for rural Colombia it would be a great opportunity. To do this, it has been proposed to reach the sum of 12,000 satellites in orbit to provide this service, which companies or individuals can pay with a monthly fee.

It is expected that in Colombia this satellite Internet will operate with speeds between 50 Mbps and 150 Mbps with a latency that will be between 20 and 40 milliseconds. For its use, the installation of an antenna will be required and it will have a cost of almost 100 dollars per month to use on any device.

One of the main advantages of satellite Internet is the possibility of connecting areas where other technologies such as fiber optics do not reach. This satellite internet company was recognized a few months ago, when the same Elon Musk offered Ukraine this technology to keep the troops on the ground in communication after the Russian invasion of that country began.

In this way, Colombia joins a group of Latin American countries that already offer their citizens this service, including Argentina and Brazil. Chile, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.
