Elon Musk: Latino father and son designed these Nike shoes for the head of Tesla, how much does it cost to have them?

Elon Musk is known for being a technology driver with SpaceX, Tesla, Neuralink and other of his companies, but he has never put a high priority on fashion. He is a man of simple dress, without much fanfare, more or less following the trend of other billionaires. He did, however, once pause to brag about a pair of sneakers: Nike Air Jordan 1 Tesla.

This model was customized by DeMarco company, led by Marco Acosta Sr. and his son, of the same name.

The Acostas, born in Guadalajara, Mexico, designed Nike shoes for the head of Tesla. They were given to him in 2018, but Musk did not immediately show them to the public.

A year later, he used them for the presentation of the Tesla Model Y, being proud of them. How was that moment? What happened to the shoes?

The Nike Air Jordan 1 Tesla are predominantly black with red details, like the soles. On the front it shows the Tesla logo in red, and on the side the Nike swoosh in the same color.

Marco Acosta Jr. spoke with inputmag about his custom shoe company and, of course, about the Nike Air Jordan 1 Tesla that they gave to Elon Musk.

“My dad and I are very creative. Many of the materials we use are not even for shoes. They are intended for clothing, they are intended for furniture,” said Acosta Jr.

The origin of the model given to Musk was in a close friend of the billionaire, whose name was not revealed. He knew about the Acostas and their company, and asked them to design personalized sports shoes for the tycoon’s birthday.

The only requirements were that the shoe It was a Nike Air Jordan and it would have the Tesla logo: for the rest, the Acostas could decide what they wanted.

“I just wanted to do something premium,” Acosta Jr. said of the materials he used for Elon Musk’s sneakers. “If you’re trying to do something for Elon, you want to do something that will blow his mind.”

It took them 22 hours to produce the Nike Air Jordan 1 Tesla for Elon Musk, instead of the usual 12-15 hours of any other model.

Can this custom iteration be purchased?

Musk showed off his sneakers in a tweet after the Tesla event. As Inputmag recalls, hundreds of people contacted the Acostas, asking how to buy the iteration. They were collectors, Tesla owners and followers of Elon Musk.

On Instagram they gained thousands of followers (today they have more than 33 thousand, with the account protected), receiving an important boost for your company. “For me, that has been the best moment of our career,” Acosta Jr. said. “I don’t think there is any custom shoe of ours that a model like him has worn.”

Before the boom, the company DeMarco made six pairs of Nike Air Jordan 1 Tesla, all numbered as special edition, with an elegant box. It is not known how much those cost.

But today custom models, without numbers or special display boxes, can be ordered at retail. The price? $1,500.

Regarding Musk, he has not worn the special model again. He usually wears dress shoes, and occasionally Nike sneakers, but nothing like the ones from that Tesla presentation.
