Elon Musk fires with a tweet an engineer who publicly corrected him

Since Elon Musk Chief Twit was proclaimed after disbursing 44,000 million euros has not stopped using Twitter to share your thoughts and strategies. He has talked about carbohydrates, he has given permission to do comedy, has punished those who make comedy imitating other accounts and has praised verified payment, his great masterpiece on the social network – although it has now been withdrawneither -. The tycoon has also used his platform to fire an employee.

This incident began on November 13, when Musk apologized for Twitter’s performance in some territories: “I would like to apologize for Twitter’s slowness in many countries. The app is doing >1000 poorly clustered RPCs just to render a timeline! at home!”.

Eric Frohnhoefer, a Twitter engineer, saw his boss’s tweet and wanted to shed some light on the matter. So he puffed up his work, quoting Musk’s tweet: “I’ve spent 6 years working on Twitter for Android and I can say this is wrong.” Faced with this public correction, Musk asked him to give the correct figures. And then, in another tweet, he rebuked her for Twitter being “super slow” on Android: “What have you done to fix it?”

The conversation warmed up little by little and Frohnhoefer brought out the heavy weaponry with a little thread recounting everything he had done to make Twitter work properly. And he tossed in a piece of advice to Musk: “Frankly, we should probably prioritize some big rewrites to combat 10+ years of tech debt and make a call to aggressively remove features.”

Open to new opportunities

The thing did not stop there, since answering another user, he criticized Musk’s attitude with irony: “Maybe I should ask these questions in private. Maybe using Slack or an email.” It must be borne in mind that both media are the first to remove from Twitter when someone is fired by surprise.

But this engineer cannot say that he has been caught on foot changed. “He’s fired,” Musk responded when a user tipped off Frohnhoefer’s complaint. Subsequently, the tycoon deleted this publication -who knows if he was advised by his legal team-, but the trace remained on the social network.

It could only be an exaggeration, a part of the Twitter acting. As Donald Trump did on his reality show. But no, it’s true: Frohnhoefer has been fired via Twitter and in front of the more than 115 million followers of the South African tycoon.

The former Twitter worker himself, who cited the tweet of his dismissal with an emoji of ‘at your service’, has been in charge of giving the last hour: he tried to get to work and, indeed, his access to everything had already been cut off. In his platform bio he states that he is “open to new opportunities.”
