Bill Gates’ ‘eco-toilet’

It may sound like a Japanese frikada, but it is one of the greatest eco advances that will be implemented in humanity, whose objective is to manage the disposal of human waste safely. According to data provided by the WHO and Unicef, around 3.6 billion people are still forced today to use unsafe sanitation facilities, which means that half a million children under the age of five die each year from “terrible diarrhea caused by the unlimited access to drinking water and lack of personal hygiene.”

For this reason, the philanthropic foundation of the most famous rich man in the world launched last week on the market the first commercial prototype of a toilet that it has developed in collaboration with Samsung Electronics. It is an innovative state-of-the-art eco toilet that has been designed with the sole objective of managing the disposal of human waste “safely” as best as possible. A new invention that turns feces into ash.

“Two transformations take place. On the one hand, and through industrial liquids, solid waste undergoes a bioprocess: it is dehydrated, dried and burned, turning it into ash. On the other hand, the liquids are treated through a biological purification process. As if that were not enough, the system allows the treated water to be completely recycled. The technology developed removes pathogens from faeces and makes the effluents (industrial liquids) and solids released safe for the environment,” reads the statement written by Samsung.

Of course, despite the enthusiasm generated by the new toilet, and despite the fact that it is already a reality, neither the former marriage gates nor has the South Korean tech firm announced a launch date yet. Nor what price will it have. Not a trivial matter, by the way, if your future goes through domestic use.
