A new concern has arisen about artificial intelligence (AI), this one mentioned by Melinda Gates, ex-wife of tycoon Bill Gates.

In an interview she gave to CNN on Thursday, June 29, the woman expressed her concern because, according to her words, the lack of women who are working on the creation of AI could prejudice them.

“We do not have enough women computer scientists and with experience in artificial intelligence, and it makes me very nervous that AI is prejudiced against us,” she said in the dialogue with the American media.

The comments come amid several troubling scenarios about artificial intelligence. For example, a few days ago, broadcasters, voice actors, and audiobook narrators felt threatened by this technology.

“We’re fighting a very big monster,” says voice actor and announcer Mario Filio, whose creativity was immortalized on the animated film’s soundtrack. Madagascar, with its catchy refrain “I want to rock the boat! I want to move the boat!”.

To wage this battle, under the slogan “Do not steal our voices”, some twenty unions and unions from Europe, the United States and Latin America created the Organization of United Voices (OVU), which promotes legislation to harmonize AI and human creation.

The “indiscriminate and unregulated” use of AI can extinguish an “artistic heritage of creativity (…) that machines cannot generate,” warns OVU.

Voice artists were already competing with Text To Speech (TTS), a system that announces texts, with robotic diction, and is used in assistants such as Alexa or Siri.

The AI ​​added the “machine learning” (machine learning), with which a software you can compare one voice sample to millions of existing onesidentifying patterns that generate a clone.

“It is fed with voices that we have been uploading for years,” explains Dessiree Hernández, president of the Mexican Association of Commercial Announcers. “We are talking about the human right to use voice and interpretation without your consent,” she added.

Platforms like revoicer.com offer a wide range for monthly installments of $27, a fraction of what professionals would charge. On its website it clarifies that “it does not intend to replace human voices”, but rather to offer an advantageous alternative.

By then, Musk argued that AI would make the production of goods and services extremely high-quality, and that would make things very low-cost.

Precisely for this reason, the tycoon had considered that it would be necessary to develop a system that grants a kind of economic subsidies that make it possible to meet the minimum needs of people, whose labor force was replaced by a machine.
