As stated by Fábio Faria, Minister of Communications of the Government of Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil, schools in the Amazon are getting Internet connection. Places usually marked by a complicated telecommunications infrastructure, which means that a connection cannot be reached well in many of the local institutions.

Elon Musk, through his Twitter account, has confirmed this fact, ensuring that Starlink is connecting schools in that area. He has detailed how a secure and stable Internet connection can be a real headache in isolated populations of the Amazon.

this collaboration between the Government of Brazil and Elon Musk dates from May 2022, at which time both parties announced negotiations on Starlink between SpaceX and the Faria Ministry of Communications. The photo shared by Faria shows Elon Musk, in full videoconference, with the children and teachers of the school in the Amazon region.

In another series of tweets, Musk highlights the importance of education and its role in people’s lives, as well as the current meaning of an Internet connection in the educational sector. “Education is the way out of poverty, and Internet access enables education,” said the tycoon.

The conversation between SpaceX and the Ministry of Communications also left several issues on the table about deforestation in the Amazon, providing connectivity to the most disadvantaged people. “We hope to bring connectivity to the underserved people of Brazil,” Musk said, promising that Starlink would help ensure “the preservation of the Amazon.”

It’s not the only time Starlink has played a role in a country with limited resources. SpaceX is currently negotiating with officials from the Republic of Zambia on satellite Internet services, as revealed by the government itself in statements collected by Teslarati.
