White Noise: Netflix unveils the trailer for its apocalyptic thriller with Adam Driver

After Marriage StoryNoah Baumbach reveals White Noisehis new film for Netflix with Adam Driver and Greta Gerwig.

While the trailers of Blonde hair and Pinocchio by Guillermo del Toro have already been revealed, it is the turn of another Netflix film to reveal itself and as much to say that after Mank, The Power of the Dog or The Chicago Seven, expectations around Netflix original movies are very high. Noah Baumbach, who has already collaborated twice with the platform to The Meyerowitz Stories and Marriage Storyis back with White Noise.

For his adaptation of the novel Background noise by Don DeLillo, the filmmaker calls on his favorite actor Adam Driver again after While We’re Young, Frances Ha and of course, Marriage Story. Noah Baumbach also summons Greta Gerwig, his companion in life and in work, with whom he co-wrote numerous films including the highly anticipated Barbie, directed by Greta Gerwig. Bizarre and quirky, the teaser of White Noise is very promising.

The teaser therefore reveals the perfect little American family led by a Greta Gerwig as a typical mother of the 80s who does the hula-hoop, and by a Adam Driver aging, balding in support, who finally seems to play a nice (well for now). But the exemplary family could well find themselves plunged into uncertainty after the arrival of a strange disturbance from the sky likely to tip the story into science fiction. According to the synopsis, this disturbance would be due to an “aerial toxic event”.

Half post-apocalyptic, the teaser of White Noise promises a certain exploration of genres. Both very colorful visually and very dark in what it could well tell, Noah Baumbach’s new film is already shaping up to be the new Netflix sensation, especially since it will the opening of the 2022 edition of the Venice Film Festival. If the story is still unclear, the slogan visible on the poster “You Can’t Hear It If It’s Everywhere” insists even more on the mystery.

Family portrait

Alongside Greta Gerwig and Adam Driver, we will find Don Cheadle, Raffey Cassidy, Jodie Turner-Smith, Sam Nivola, May Nivola, Lars Eidinger and Andre Benjamin. Accustomed to original scenarios, this is the first time that Noah Baumbach will adapt a novel. The release date of White Noise has not yet been revealed, but the film should arrive on Netflix before the end of the year, after its small Venetian detour from August 31. The first opinions on the film should therefore fall quickly.
