Adam Driver – White Noise

Noah Baumbach’s next film, about a terrifying and hilarious modern-day American family, starring Adam Driver, will have a New York premiere, pending its exclusive release on Netflix later this year .

Adapted from the novel Background noise by Don DeLillo published in 1985, White Noise follows a bourgeois family in the American Midwest caught in the constant “background noise” of the media in the late 1980s.

In the form of dark satire, the book addresses the themes of media saturation, overconsumption, drug addiction, family disintegration, and endemic violence in American society. As parents and children try to manage these conflicts, everyone wonders how to be happy in such an unstable world.

Noah Baumbach’s adaptation will focus on the character of Jack Gladney, played by Adam Driver, an ostentatious professor specializing in Hitler studies and father of four children. His comfortable life in a suburban college town, and his marriage to Babette (Greta Gerwig), are turned upside down after a horrific accident creates a toxic atmosphere of frightening proportions.

In a communicated release, the directors of the New York Festival, which will host the film in preview at the end of September, described it as ambitious: “Balanced between comedy and horror, [Noah] Baumbach captures the essence of the cacophonous pop-philosophical nightmare of [Don] DeLillo on boundless consumerism, environmental disaster and America’s obsession with death. Perfectly matching the hard-hitting style of DeLillo and Baumbach, White Noise is wonderfully abrasive and impressive, […] perfectly adapted to our pandemic reality. »

White Noise is the second collaboration between Noah Baumbach and Netflix, after Marriage Storywhich had received numerous nominations and awards in 2019. The American director and screenwriter recently co-signed the screenplay for Barbie with Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie, directed by his partner Greta Gerwig (The Daughters of Doctor March).

For his part, Adam Driver will soon be on the bill of Ferrari, a biopic about the founder of the famous Italian car brand, which marks Michael Mann’s return to directing. A first photo of the transformed actor has also leaked on Twitter August 1st.

Netflix has not yet published any official release date on its platform for White Noise.
