An Upcoming Bob Dylan Biopic Starring Timothée Chalamet
At just 27 years old, the Franco-American actor Timothée Chalamet is one of the sure values of world cinema. Hollywood snatches the talents of the hero of the science fiction film Dunes (2021) by Denis Villeneuve which had made a place for itself in the top 10 of the greatest hits of the year at the American box office. The same year, he made an appearance in the choral film The French Dispatch of Wes Anderson until landing in the Bones and All (2022) by Luca Guadagnino. In 2023, the dark brown will play the whimsical Willy Wonka (the master chocolatier in the film Charlie and the chocolate factory (2005) by Tim Burton) in Wonka which is set to hit theaters on December 13. But the wide range of Timothée Chalamet seems limitless. Indeed, it is in the role of Bob Dylan that we will soon see the actor in A Complete Unknown, the biopic dedicated to the musician which should be released in 2024.
While filming this biopic event, retracing the life and career of the immense artist that was Bob Dylan will debut this summer, new information about its casting has recently been released. The young American actress Elle Fanning (Super 8, Maleficent, The Neon Demon…) will appear in the film alongside the actor Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, Doctor Strange…) which will turn into Pete Seeger, American musician and pioneer of folk music who greatly influenced the work of Bob Dylan in his early days. On his side, Monica Barbaro (particularly seen in the last Top Gun) will become movie time Joan Baez, one of the other great folk voices of the 1960s in the United States. In addition to inheriting the title role from Bob Dylan, Timothée Chalamet should perform the titles of “Rimbaud du rock” himself. Anyway, that’s what James Mangoldthe director of the film during an interview with the media Collider, last April.

The announcement of this biopic is also in line with other films centered on the life and career of Bob Dylan. In 2007, the director Todd Haynes (Carol, Dark Waters) had been inspired by various episodes of the life of the American singer for the dramatic comedy I’m Not There, inviting in its cast Cate Blanchett next to Christian Bale. If the idea of this new biopic as well as its casting already constitute two good reasons to believe in its interest, it would seem, to finish convincing us of it, that Bob Dylan himself is involved in it as executive producer.
The film A Complete Unknown by James Mangold, with Timothée Chalamet will be released in 2024.
