Timothée Chalamet’s Wonka Performance Praised By Keegan-Michael Key – Deadline

Key Keegan-Michael discussed the next Charlie and the chocolate factory adaptation, Wonkain which he appears alongside Timothée Chalamet. Chalamet, star of films as diverse as Dune, call me by your name and bones and alltakes on the lead role of eccentric chocolatier, Willy Wonka, in an all-new origin story.

The star previously revealed he has seven musical numbers in the film. His co-star Key had nothing but positive things to say about the young actor and the project itself when he was interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter.

“It has seven musical numbers and I have two, one is a group number and the other is a smaller group number,” Key said. “I would agree with all the adjectives used by Timothée and would also like to add the words wonderful. and a bit epic. It’s a beautiful, big, full, beautiful work of art and Paul King, who directed it, is a lovely human being with this wonderful childlike heart. He was the ideal person to lead the project.

Key added:

“There’s this wonderful ease in the way he plays Wonka, not to mention the fact that there’s this quality of hope that he gives to the character, a kind of indomitable quality that he will never give up, he is always ready for the next thing. He’s like, ‘OK, that didn’t work? We will do this and we will try something else”. And Timothée Chalamet, what can I say? Damn it! This kid, you know, he exudes charisma and wonderful confidence. He’s just a really delightful artist.

Chalamet previously described the film as “heartfelt and so joyful”, saying he relished the musical numbers which offered him an “escape”. He added: “I hate to say it, but an artist’s dream is to throw whatever you want on the wall, you know? And I guess what I realize is that the personal life, the adult life, can be pretty boring and the life as an artist can still be amazing.

Wonka also stars Olivia Colman, Sally Hawkins, Matt Lucas, Rowan Atkinson, Natasha Rothwell, Rufus Jones and Simon Farnaby and is led by Paul King. King, best known for his work on the two critically acclaimed films Paddington films, stepped away from the director’s chair with the little English bear to take on this project.

Wonka is slated for a December 15, 2023 release date. In the meantime, you can check out the movie details below:
