‘The vigilante’: Bruce Willis’ forceful action movie that connects in an unexpected way with ‘Full metal jacket’

An old-school vigilante thriller that was the big comeback for its star, one of the legends of the action genreto that genre. A movie pretty straightforward and uncomplicatedalthough it has a couple of connections with a classic of war films such as The metal jacket. The first is the most obvious: the presence of Vincent D’Onofrio, who plays Willis’s brother and was also one of the standout actors in Stanley Kubrick’s film as the memorable Clumsy Recruit.

D’Onofrio’s presence prompted director Eli Roth to make yet another connection with The metal jacket. In a scene where we see Willis’s character learning to shoot a Glock pistol, he does so through a YouTube tutorial of a green beret, whose show is titled ‘Full Metal Tactics’. A direct reference to the original English title of the film, Full Metal Jacket.

Small details that show the enormous cinephilia of a filmmaker like Rothwho has already stood out as a guru and historian of the history of horror films with projects such as the documentary Eli Roth’s History of Horror.
