The real reason Diane Lane and Josh Brolin divorced

In 2002, when Diane Lane and Josh Brolin crossed paths at the premiere night of “A Beautiful Mind,” they both knew each other, even though they had never been close. According to an interview with People (via Yahoo!), Diane Lane and Josh Brolin had met years before, on a set, around a craft table. At the “Beautiful Mind” party, Brolin approached Lane and said, “Hi, do you remember me?”. That night, a spark was born between them.

A year and a half later, Brolin proposed to Lane on July 4. They were married on August 14, 2004, at the Brolin ranch, north of Los Angeles. Among the guests were Brolin’s father, James Brolin, and stepmother Barbra Streisand, as well as actress Elizabeth Perkins.

It was the second marriage of the two actors. Lane was previously married to French-American actor Christoper Lambert from 1988 to 1994, according to IMDb. Lane and Lambert have a daughter, Eleanor. Brolin was married to actress Alice Adair from 1988 to 1994 as well, according to IMDb. They have two children, Trevor and Eden. In 2004, Lane and Brolin and their stepfamilies left to have a good life. Nine years later, it was all over. What happened ?

Their marriage was tumultuous from the start

Four months after Diane Lane and Josh Brolin married on December 19, 2004, Brolin was arrested at the couple’s home and charged with domestic violence. Diane Lane called the police and claimed Brolin hit her, according to the New York Daily News (via People). Brolin posted a $ 20 bond and was released. A spokesperson for the couple said at the time: “There was a misunderstanding at their home”, and that the arrest was “for the lowest domestic battery offense”. … Diane did not want to file a complaint and asked them not to arrest her ”. They add that Lane and Brolin “are embarrassed that the matter has gone so far”.

Brolin will be arrested two more times: for a brawl at a bar in Shreveport, Louisiana, in 2008, and on New Year’s Day 2013 for public drunkenness, according to Yahoo! The charges at Shreveport were ultimately dropped. In February 2013, Lane and Brolin went their separate ways. The divorce was final in December 2013 after nine years of marriage, according to the Associated Press.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight in 2018, Brolin, who has since remarried, said: “I loved Diane. I loved being a father figure to his daughter. It just wasn’t achievable, and in that hero mentality you burn yourself out, and when you burn out you get resentful, and then all that stuff comes out. So I just feel bad that I didn’t have the presence of mind or the maturity, or whatever, to figure that out early on. ”
