Leslie Mann and Tim Robbins having left The Power of Prime Video last May, here is that Toni Collette (Pieces of Her, The Staircaseopposite) and Josh Charles (We Own This City, The Good Wifebelow) replace them at short notice.
On the side of the creative team, screenwriter Raelle Tucker (Jessica Jones, True Blood, final image), which has signed a global agreement with Amazon Studios, arrives at the showrunning of the feminist series adapted from the eponymous novel by Naomi Alderman. As part of this new pact, Tucker will also be developing new projects for the Amazon streamer.
The Power is one of the series most affected by the difficulties linked to the coronavirus pandemic. In October 2019, Mann was announced in the lead role of Margot Cleary-Lopez. In the crowd, at the very beginning of 2020, Rain Wilson was chosen to play the other main role in the series, that of Daniel Dandon. In February of the same year, production was launched without knowing that the problems would start a month later. Indeed, in March, the world was put on lockdown due to COVID-19, with production suspended for several months. At the time of the takeover, Wilson was no longer available, and Robbins then replaced him in January 2021, as Dandon’s role became recurring. Production finally resumed last spring until Mann and Robbins stepped down.
In The Power, adapted for television by Alderman herself, in a sudden twist from nature, and without warning, every teenage girl in the world develops the power to shock people at will. The series follows a cast of characters from London Seattle to Nigeria to Eastern Europe as “The Power” evolves from a tingle in the collarbone to a complete reversal of the balance of power in the world.
Colette will therefore be Margot Cleary-Lopez, Democratic mayor of Seattle. Authentic and truly progressive politician, she fights for change. She has a sharp tongue, a mischievous sense of humor and a passion for leaving the world a better place than she found it. She is also the devoted mother of three children, including Jos (Auli’I Cravalho), and wife of Rob (John Leguizamo) for 20 years. When “Le Pouvoir” emerges, Margot is catapulted into the limelight, opening the door to unimaginable possibilities – both personally and politically.
Charles therefore takes over the role of Dandon, the governor of the state of Washington, and political opponent of Margot. An accomplished politician, Liberal and Republican, he is a shrewd political animal, an experienced courtier who knows how to play the game – and he is poised to become the next state senator. Until the appearance of “Power”.
Besides Colette and Charles, the rest of the cast of The Power is composed of Cravalho, Leguizamo, Eddie Marsan, Ria Zmitrowicz, Toheeb Jimoh, Zrinka Cvitesic, Ana Ularu and Edwina Findley. Tucker serves as the series’ chief executive producer alongside Sister’s Jane Featherstone and Naomi de Pear, as well as Alderman, director Reed Morano and Claire Wilson. Tim Bricknell and Sarah Quintrell are co-executive producers.
