The Flight Attendant: Kaley Cuoco, “We decided that Cassie was going to meet all her personalities” (INTERVIEW)

After an eventful first season, Kaley Cuoco returns to the front of the stage with the sequel to The Flight Attendant ! Eight episodes and a new mystery: this is what awaits fans of the dark humor thriller. Serieously spoke with the cast of the series, available from September 8 on Warner TV.

Everything seems to be going well for Cassie Bowden! In Los Angeles, it is a transformed woman that we find – while the protagonist is fully committed to her sobriety, but also to her relationship with a certain Marco. When the flight attendant isn’t spending her time on a plane or with Annie and Max, she’s busy with her new job, now a CIA secret agent.

But things are not always what they seem… Witnessing a murder in Berlin, Cassie finds herself embroiled in another international intrigue. An event that will rekindle her inner demons and project her back into the heart of the Mind Palace, this time populated by different versions of herself.. On the occasion of the release of season 2 of The Flight AttendantSerieously was able to speak with Kaley Cuoco (Cassie), Zosia Mamet (Annie) and Deniz Akdeniz (Max).

Cassie has made many bad decisions in previous episodes but begins Season 2 with one goal in mind: to become a better person. What can you tell us about this change?

Kaley Cuoco : Cassie is far from perfect but we learn in season 1 that she has a heart of gold. I think that’s what made the public say to themselves: “Okay, I don’t hate this woman”. She’s really trying to move on [dans la saison 2]. She does her best to be a good friend and a good stewardess. But I think the real person she’s lying to is herself. Throughout this season, we see her confronting herself, forgiving herself and accepting herself as she is.

The relationship between Annie and Max also becomes more intense. How did you approach this new dynamic?

Deniz Akdeniz : So far, Annie has always managed to keep things under control but this season we really explored the fact that she couldn’t handle the situation. Max constantly pushes the boundaries of their relationship. They are two people who love each other, but there are unresolved issues and things left unsaid that come to the surface.

Zosia Mamet : Yes, we really saw a change of roles! Annie feels lost while Cassie has regained control, which makes her very jealous. Max, he is still so relaxed [Rires]. I think everything they go through brings them together.

The Mind Palace is indeed back but in this season 2, Cassie must face different versions of herself. How did this idea come about?

Kaley Cuoco : The Mind Palace was very important in the first season, so we didn’t want to lose that. But we didn’t want to tell the same story either. So how could we make it unique? We decided that Cassie was going to meet herself and all of her different personalities — the parts she hates and the parts she would like to be. I didn’t realize I was gonna play all these versions [Rires]. But it was a hell of an experience.

It must be particularly exhausting to play a character who is always on the verge of breaking down. How challenging was that for you?

Kaley Cuoco : There is a lot of [scènes intenses] during this season, and I wanted to make sure we added some comedic moments — because the show gets very emotional and very dark. There are things I do to keep myself away from all that when I’m on set. I had ping pong tables all over the set, I played games on my phone and listened to a lot of music. It was very important to me to stay sane. But yes, it was definitely exhausting!

The Flight Attendant indeed deals with several serious subjects, such as alcoholism and addiction. Was it important for you to mention this?

Zosia Mamet : In the first season, we see that Cassie struggles deeply with her alcoholism. And so in season 2, [l’équipe] absolutely wanted to deal with his sobriety and the challenges it presents. I think one of the most amazing things about storytelling is that we can take a very serious subject and tell it through a particular character. It can sometimes help people feel understood or open their eyes to their own issues.

With an air hostess as the main character, the series does not fail to make us travel. After Thailand and Rome, Cassie finds herself this time in Berlin and Iceland! How did you live this experience?

Kaley Cuoco : It was amazing! There is so much to see in Berlin. We were able to show a lot of elements of the city which was great. And then, I was rather worried about shooting in Iceland in December. I thought we were crazy and everyone was gonna freeze [Rires]. But in the end, it was a wonderful experience. It was so magical! Images [de la série] are so beautiful that I’m afraid people will think it’s fake scenery [Rires].
