And yet, Michael Shannon almost refused to take over the role when Warner Bros contacted him. The actor opened up about it during a recent interview with Vanity Fair. (reported by Wegotthiscovered). He spoke about the departure of Zack Snyder, before revealing that he had agreed to play in The Flash only on one condition: the blessing of the director.

Michael Shannon tells us everything!

Although he is no longer part of the adventure, Zack Snyder remains for many, the father of the DCEU: we still owe him Man of Steel (2013), the very first film in the franchise, but also Batman VS Superman ( 2016) and not forgetting Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021) which is considered by fans and critics to be vastly better than the 2017 film (directed by Joss Whedon after Zack Snyder left following a personal tragedy).

The rest we all know: Warner Bros has finally decided to sweep the Snyderverse to start all over again with the DCEU which becomes DCU, as well as two new co-directors of DC Studios in the person of James Gunn and Peter Safran. The Flash thus marks the restart of the franchise. Thus, during his exchange with Vanity Fair, Michael Shannon confided that he had been very reluctant to return as General Zod out of solidarity for Zack Snyder.

The actor also commented on the way Warner Bros dismissed the director of the DCU: “I was very upset about what happened to Zack in the Justice League and all that. I did not feel well. Now I know I probably don’t know every side of this story, and I probably should shut up, but like I said, I really, really, really love Zack and I really appreciated this opportunity [de travailler avec lui.] »

Suddenly, when Warner Bros offered him to return, Michael Shannon insisted on having Zack Snyder’s approval before joining the cast of The Flash: “I spoke to Andy [Muschietti], who is also a lovely guy and very, very creative and fun, and, you know, I said, ‘Hey, you know, I would feel really uncomfortable doing this without Zack’s blessing. So until I get that, you’re gonna have to wait.’ So I reached out to Zack, and he gave me his blessing and said, ‘It’s okay. You can do it.’ And I appreciate that, and then I said yes. »
