In full promotion of “Tulsa King”, Sylvester Stallone spoke at length about his career with the “Hollywood Reporter”. The actor and director has unveiled the project of his filmography which he considers to be the most underrated.
Sylvester Stallone back in Tulsa King
After playing a superhero in the feature film The Samaritanavailable on Prime Video, Sylvester Stallone is already back on the small screen in the United States. In the series Tulsa Kingcreated by Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone, windriver), the star lends his features to Dwight Manfredi, also known as the “General”. A former New York mafia boss, this gangster can finally enjoy some fresh air after serving a 25-year prison sentence.
He is sent to Tulsa, Oklahoma, by the kingpin Chickie Invernizzi (Domenick Lombardozzi). Once there, Dwight assembles his own team to take control of the city’s organized crime. Andrea Savage, Garrett Hedlund, Dana Delany, Jay Will, Martin Starr, Max Casella and Vincent Piazza complete the distribution of this first season consisting of ten episodes.
In full promotion of the program, Sly returned to his career in a long interview granted to the HollywoodReporter. The actor confided in particular on his absence in Creed III but also on the time Arnold Schwarzenegger framed himprovoking his participation in the comedy Stop where my mother is going to shoot.
The remake of Get Carter underestimated ?
Sly also returned to the project he considers to be the most underrated in his filmography, choosing a somewhat forgotten feature film released in 2001. At the time, he was going through a complicated period, having just suffered the failure of the disastrous drivenand will then experience another flop with D-Tox: Deadly Countdownan anecdotal thriller that borrows a lot or even a lot from Seven. Between these two films comes Get Carter of Stephen Kayremake of the cult The Law of the Middle of Mike Hodgesworn by Michael Caine.
While the action of the original is set between London and Newcastle, Get Carter begins in Las Vegas, the city of vice where Jack Carter (Sylvester Stallone) collects unpaid debts from pawnbrokers. When he learns that his brother is dead, he returns to Seattle and decides to investigate his death, determined to take revenge. He also forged ties with his niece Doreen (Rachael Leigh Cook), which he hardly knows. Miranda Richardson, mickey rourke and Alan Cumming complete the cast of the feature film, which also benefits from the presence of Michael Caine.

Sylvester Stallone has neither the phlegm nor the class of the latter in the role of Jack Carter, and the film fails to recreate the sticky atmosphere of its model. However, the star believes that Get Carter deserves to be reassessedassuring in this regard:
Believe it or not, I think Get Carter was really underestimated. It was a big disappointment.
A small tackle West Side Story
The actor and director then argued that it is extremely difficult to do a remake, tackling the West Side Story of Steven Spielberg :
I learned the hard way that for remakes, even if you do better than the original, there’s a huge nostalgia attached to it. And quite often, they are not so good. Like the last West Side Story. Why would you want to mess with something like that? The problem is not only the quality of the original, but also the fact that people’s tastes change. Musicals don’t work anymore.
If the feature film did not indeed meet the success it deserves when it was released in 2021, it is undoubtedly worth a look more than Get Carter.
