Saturday Night Live has been praised by fans for showing a special tribute episode to the late Betty White.

Golden Girls actress White died on New Years Eve a few weeks before her 100th birthday.

Her death was greeted with a wave of grief and celebrity memories, which Dolly Parton and Ryan Reynolds paid tribute to.

On Saturday, Saturday Night Live aired the May 8, 2010 episode in which White hosted the show with Jay Z as a musical guest.

White became the oldest person to host the late night comedy series at the age of 88, and she has appeared in every skit.

The episode also featured former SNL cast members Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Molly Shannon, Maya Rudolph, Ana Gasteyer and Rachel Dratch and drew over 12 million viewers.

White came to host the beloved show after a massive Facebook campaign urged NBC to invite him to headline.

David Matthews from Texas launched the “Betty White to Host SNL (Please?)!” After the comedy legend appeared in a popular Snickers Super Bowl commercial.

After just a few weeks, several hundred thousand fans had signed the petition and it was announced that she will be hosting a special Mother’s Day episode.

Viewers were happy with SNL’s decision to air the episode and applauded the decision.

“Thanks, thanks, Saturday Night Live, @nbcsnl and everyone who was involved in the decision to air America’s BELOVED episode Betty White tonight,” one person wrote. “Watch, laugh and cry a little. “

Echoing a similar sentiment, another wrote: ‘We’ll be done, #SNL. Performing the episode with Betty White as the host tonight is a great tribute! ‘

Over the course of his career, White has written several books and won five Primetime Emmy Awards out of 21 nominations, as well as a handful of other top accolades.
