Earlier this week, Twitter was having fun joking about a bad headline which said Leonardo DiCaprio seemed “unrecognizable” in the first images of the new Martin Scorsese movie. Leo looked exactly like Leo in these photos. That’s the joke. That’s the tweet.
But while we were talking about it, Seth Rogen had already posted a photo of himself in which he is actually unrecognizable. The actor posted a clean-shaven face selfie (well, mostly) for his upcoming appearance in the Hulu miniseries, Pam & Tommy.
I know the face of Seth Rogen. I’ve even seen him shaved before, when he was a boyish-faced teenager in Freaks & Geeks. I’ve seen it with goatee on Super salty Y Virgin at 40. He was even clean shaven on Super smoked.
So why, I ask, does he legitimately look so unrecognizable in this photo without his beard?
Do not misunderstand. The man looks great. I love the late 90s fit. He has a fine jaw that is normally hidden under that skin. But I feel like we’ve entered an alternate reality situation like The Bears. Berenstein vs The Berenstain Bears. The timeline split the moment Seth Rogen shaved off his beard, sending our current reality hurtling in a different direction. This is an existential crisis. This is not the Seth Rogen I know and love.
I am haunted by this image. Seth Rogen. Seth Rogen bearded. Please go back and get our reality back on its rightful course. We need you, you and your beard.
