It seems that Russell Crowe’s final days are drawing near. He is not going to die, but apparently his final departure from the film sets is closer than we think. Which is also not surprising, considering that the actor has played relatively small roles and mentioned some time ago that he wants to dedicate himself 100% to his farm in Australia. But apparently the Oscar winner is also going through a personal crisis.
«You stand in front of the mirror and say: Who the fuck is that? I’m in that period now,” reveals Crowe. So he’s missed following the path of the director who helped him to glory.
«I will take Ridley Scott as a role model: he continues to discover new things in his work. Or I’ll just stop and they’ll never hear from me again.” However, he mentions that “I haven’t decided what it’s going to be. They are two very valid options.
Crowe also seems to be bored with those who seek him out for a statement on the sequel to Gladiator. “They should pay me for the number of questions they ask me about a movie I’m not even in,” he told Variety Half joking, half serious.
“It has nothing to do with me. In that world, I am dead. Two meters underground. But I admit to a certain tinge of jealousy, because it reminds me of when I was younger and what it meant to me, in my life.”
What do we know about “Gladiator 2”?
In this way, Russell makes it clear again that he will not be part of Gladiators 2which is scheduled to release on November 22, 2024. Directed by Ridley Scott, the sequel will follow Lucius (played by Paul Mescal), Commodus’ nephew, who is saved by Crowe’s character Maximus Decimus Meridius in the original movie.
The cast, in turn, is complemented by Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal and Joseph Quinn. In addition to Connie Nielsen, Djimon Hounsou and Derek Jacobi who will reprise their roles as Lucilla, Juba and Gracchus respectively.
