After “The Little Drummer Girl”, Korean director Park Chan-wook is preparing a new spy series called “The Sympathizer”. A program produced by HBO and A24, for which Robert Downey Jr. has metamorphosed.
The Sympathizer : Park Chan-wook’s new series
In 2018, for his second project in English after Stoker, Park Chan-wook transposes the novel to the screen The little girl with the drum of John le Carre with the spy series The Little Drummer Girlcarried by Florence Pugh, Michael Shannon and Alexander Skarsgard. With The Sympathizera new program produced by HBO and A24, the filmmaker rewarded in 2022 by the Prize for directing at the Cannes Film Festival for Decision to Leave stays the same.
He is currently preparing an adaptation of the novel The Sympathizer by Vietnamese-American writer Viet Thanh Nguyen, awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2016. The book spans five years, from 1975 to 1980, and takes place between Vietnam and California.
The Sympathizer centers on a double agent in the service of the communists who leaves Saigon for California, where he falls in love and constantly struggles not to reveal his true identity. The director ofold boy and Miss should therefore unveil a new paranoid story where the convictions of the main character are shaken by his feelings.
Several roles for Robert Downey Jr.
