Renowned actor Michael Fassbender suffered a crash in the 24 hours of Le Mans

This Saturday, the 90th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans started, one of the most emblematic races in world motorsport. A total of 62 cars went out to go through this demanding test at the Circuit de la Sarthe, in search of glory. One of them is being piloted by Irish actor Michael Fassbender.

Many may recognize Fassbender for his role as ‘Magneto’ in ‘X-Men’ or for his memorable role in ‘Inglourious Basterds’, directed by Quentin Tarantino. But this weekend, the 45-year-old actor left the sets and donned his helmet to compete in one of the most challenging races on the planet.

Fassbender, who in 2018 was one of the guests of honor for the 86th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, is fulfilling his dream of competing in this legendary event.

Let us remember that it is not the Irishman’s first experience in motorsports. Fassbender started his career in the Coppa Shell of the Ferrari Challenge five years ago. Since then, he has competed in the Ferrari Challenge North America (where he won one race), the European Le Mans Series and the Porsche Supercup.

The Hollywood star is competing in the LMGTE Am category, in a Porsche 911 RSR-19. His team, the Pronton Competition, is completed by Matt Campbell and Zacharie Robichon.

In the eighth hour of competition, when Fassbennder was behind the wheel of the Porsche, he suffered contact with a Ferrari. Fortunately, the car was undamaged and was able to return to the track after a pit stop.

Other actors like Patrick Demsey and Jackie Chan have had great performances at Le Mans. The first one got on the podium in his category in 2015; while the renowned martial artist founded a team that was second overall in 2017.
