Prey: the Predator movie inspired by… Jackie Chan!

Prey takes place several hundred years before the events of the films predator. The feature film available on Disney+ follows young Naru, a Comanche struggling with one of the creatures. Accompanied by her dog, she confronts with great cunning this pitiless adversary who has come to hunt on Earth. The opportunity for many action scenes along the way. It must be said that Naru knows nature well and uses it to escape the Predator but also to face it in this unequal fight in terms of strength. The director Dan Trachtenberg did not hesitate to draw his inspiration from particular works. Interviewed by The Filmcast (via ScreenRant), the director reveals that he was inspired by Jackie Chan to design Prey!

The filmmaker modeled some of Naru’s character traits like her ability to defend herself without being too sure of herself. A peculiarity in the roles played by Jackie Chan.

Amber Midthunder has seen a lot of movies with Jackie Chan

Who could have thought that Prey drew from Jackie Chan’s filmography? And yet… This is what the director of the film on the Predator, Dan Trachtenberg, explains during an interview for The Filmcast. The filmmaker notably showed the actor’s films to Amber Midthunder who plays Naru!

We referenced Jackie Chan a lot. I felt very uncomfortable every time I talked about it because [l’actrice principale, Amber Midthunder] told me : ” Why are we still talking about Jackie Chan? “. I just kept showing him the movies. You remember Mister Dynamite ? There’s a little moment where he chews gum, throws it back, and bounces in his mouth. And it’s like, “ Oh yeah, this guy is capable of doing cool things “. It was a real challenge with Amber Midthunder to find a way to show you that she is not zero. That she’s not a nerd who becomes a heroine. It starts with skills but it doesn’t go all the way. She must win the stripe, she must go through hardships.

So for me, it was like having something in her physique that shows she has abilities. But it’s not : “ I’m the most badass of the badass “. These are in small touches, like when she flips the tomahawk and cuts it, that lies the influence of Jackie Chan. Or when she slides down the mountain and kicks.

Even in these moments, there is a little swashbuckling side that shows his physique. That’s why I showed him a million movies with Jackie Chan.
