Half a week in the world of PAPER HEROES. In May 2021, it was reported that Henry Cavill (Superman/Kal-El/Clark Kent in the DC Extended Universe, Napoleon Solo in The Man from UNCLE, Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher TV series) was in talks to star in a new film in the Highlander franchise, directed by Chad Stahelski (John Wick franchise), produced by Lionsgate.

In an interview with Collider.com (https://collider.com/highlander-remake-henry-cavill-chad-stahleski-comments-new-movie/), Stahelski offered an update: “We are in the process of adjusting right now. I think we know what we want. More important than anything, we know what we want to do. It’s in the creatives. We know what we are trying to do. It’s just a matter of getting to the point where we feel like, ‘Okay, this is it. Let’s go’. But we’re closer than ever, so that’s good.”

According to the post, Stahleski said he has been discussing the project with Cavill, whom he described as “one of my big picks.” And he added: “It’s not just about muscles and melancholy. I think he has an incredible range and I think he would bring something very special. And the enthusiasm from him has been amazing.”

Gregory Widen wrote the original script for Highlander (Highlander: The Immortal, 1986) when he was a student in a program at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and sold it for $200,000. Directed by Russell Mulcahy, it starred Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, Sean Connery (1930-2020) as Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez (born Tak-Ne in Ancient Egypt), Clancy Brown as The Kurgan/Victor Kruger, and Roxanne Hart as Brenda Wyatt, telling the story of immortal beings who must duel until there is only one left and who can die if their heads are cut off. The soundtrack contains several songs performed by the British band Queen.

It was followed by the sequels Highlander II: The Quickening (Highlander II or Final Duel, 1991), Highlander III: The Sorcerer (Highlander: The Warrior, 1994), Highlander: Endgame (Highlander: The Final Encounter, 2000) and Highlander: The Source (Highlander: The Source, 2007).

Adrian Paul played Duncan MacLeod in Highlander: The Series (Highlander: The Immortal, 992-1998), Highlander: Endgame and Highlander: The Source. Highlander: The Animated Series (1994–1996), Highlander: The Raven (1998–1999), and Highlander: The Search for Vengeance (2007) have also been produced.
