If they have been resolutely associated since the 1930s with formal representation outfits, brooches have become more popular, becoming both trendy and carrying a message. Discover our festive selection.

Bijou vintage, imbued with nostalgia, but also – like the earrings – it-accessory to be stuck wherever you want: the brooch is all of this at the same time. Better still, it sometimes wants to be symbolic, with a message, revealing our mood of the day or our personality, like the one chosen Elisabeth II for her Christmas greetings 2021. Shaped like a chrysanthemum, the brooch is the one she wore on her honeymoon with Prince Philip in 1947 and then again on their 60th wedding anniversary. A jewel to pay tribute to her late husband, on this first Christmas without him.

The brooch can be jewelry, jeweled, very stylized, or small and fun, colorful, and figurative. The brooch can simply represent a small animal totem, or a word carrying meaning. She has an appointment both on the red carpets to complete a festive outfit, as in the street, on a hat or a shirt collar, like what Amber Heard proposed, pictured in 2019 in a black outfit and white accented with a little flower jewel.

How to wear the trendy brooch over a party outfit

The brooch is traditionally stitched on the left side of a dress, or a waistcoat, and without any other jewelry. This is the classic way to wear it, very common in the 1930s among socialites for their outings to the theater or in representation. It can also be used, like the fibulae, their ancestors, these staples, the first of which date from the Bronze Age, to fix sections of fabric between them, like Mariah Carey in her Valentino dress at the Oscars 2010, or to adorn a neckline like Julie Delpy with her Woody Allen brooch at the Champs Elysées Film Festival 2013.

How to wear the brooch on a daily basis

The brooch can be showy, ornamental, worn like Salma Hayek on a total-look black (our opening photo). There we only see it. But it can also be discreet, like a trendy little detail. This is the bet in particular of Isabelle Langlois bees, small pieces of jewelry that can be attached to all accessories, such as scarves, for a precious touch on the looks of working-girls.
