Out of control by Jake Szymanski, released in 2016, is a delirious comedy featuring two inveterate partygoers, Mike and Dave, who decide to post a classified ad on Craigslist (the equivalent of the Le Bon Coin site in France) to find riders for their sister’s wedding in Hawaii. Bad luck, the two young women they find are actually even more untenable than them…

A true story behind the film
As incredible as it may seem, the feature film was indeed inspired by the real life of brothers Mike and Dave Stangle, who became viral phenomena after posting a hilarious ad on Craigslist looking for daters for their cousin’s wedding in February 2013.
Originally from Albany, New York, the Stangle brothers not only managed to get dates for marriage, but also landed contracts for a book and a film thanks to an unexpected connection with the CAA agency. Indeed, a friend of the brothers, Jay Barbeau, who was then working as an intern at the famous talent agency, was seduced by their story and decided to present it to CAA agents Cait Hoyt and Michelle Weiner.
Following this meeting, CAA played a vital role in selling the rights to their lives to Fox for a film based on their story. In parallel, the agency also helped them sign a publishing contract with Gallery, a subsidiary of Simon & Schuster, for a book based on their misadventures, titled Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates: And a Thousand Cocktails.
Although the film deviates somewhat from reality (the wedding did not take place in Hawaii and they knew their dates), the Stangle brothers are indeed charismatic partygoers that Zac Efron and Adam DeVine play in Out of control. While filming in Hawaii, the brothers even made an appearance in a pre-wedding dating scene.
