THE SUNDAY FILM

By adapting the novel A disturbing disappearance by Dror Mishani, director Erick Zonca and his co-screenwriter Lou de Fanget Signolet give the protagonist, Commander Visconti, all the attributes of the genre: he is a disillusioned, alcoholic cop, hard at work, but terribly dysfunctional .

While Gérard Depardieu had to lend him his features, the actor was hospitalized on the third day of filming and gave way to Vincent Cassel, who immediately arrived from Brazil to take on the role overnight without any prior preparation. He thus gives the reply to Romain Duris, 20 years after their collaboration in Dobermann by Jan Kounen, in an intense and oppressive face-to-face.

Accustomed to strong, big-mouthed or charismatic characters, Vincent Cassel delivers here a different, darker performance, generally hailed by critics. Journalist Corinne Renou-Nativel from La Croix places Vincent Cassel well above the lot “in rough and crumpled cop”. For Eric Neuhoff of Le Figaro, “the actor wins the day as soon as he appears on the screen” in this “dive into the heart of distress”.
