Neil Patrick Harris slammed for ‘disgusting’ Nick Jonas comments – CNET – ApparelGeek

Despite a nearly 20-year age gap, Neil Patrick Harris was a big Jonas Brothers fan — maybe too big, some say now.

Nick Jonas, 30, was still a sparkle in his parents’ eyes when Harris, 49, shot to fame as the “Doogie Howser” children’s doctor.

Now the ‘How I Met Your Mother’ star is seeing backlash on social media after comments he made about teenage Jonas resurfaced on Tuesday.

The controversy stems from a 2015 episode of ‘The Wendy Williams Show’ – with Harris confessing his attraction to the young boy-hard-core before he was ‘cleared’, admitting it could be seen as ‘a bit of a problem ”.

The revelation was made when host Williams put Harris in the “hot seat” by asking who his “celebrity crush” was.

In a clip from the segment, Harris appears to hesitate before prefacing that her husband David Burtka was aware of her feelings, so it was okay to share on Network TV.

“David knows that, so I guess that’s not a bad thing to say,” Harris remarked.

“Nick Jonas,” he replied then.

“And he was really handsome before it was allowed to think he was handsome,” Harris continued. “Which was a bit of a problem, you kind of had to wait until he became, you know… 19, 20, you’re like, ‘What’s going on?’”

Jonas, who was a third of the teenage band “The Jonas Brothers”, was 22 at the time of the interview.

The segment was shared earlier this month on TikTok, earning 350,000 views and lots of reviews. “How do celebrities get away with comments like this? He was 42 here,” read a caption on the video.

Harris said he had a crush on teenage Nick Jonas before it was “allowed” and described him as being “a bit of a problem”.

“This is completely inappropriate,” echoed one viewer. Added another, “You realize that a person does NOT change AT ALL from 17 to 18.”

Others noted Harris’ alleged past public transgressions, with one alleging that “Neil always does something problematic.”

However, some on TikTok came to the defense of the former child star.

“Why wouldn’t they get away with it?” Just saying it’s not a criminal offence,” one fan said.

“Don’t come for my man,” barked another.
