MORGAN FREEMAN. He will have a leading role in the new Paramount + bet.
“Lioness” has the renowned Zoe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman as actresses and executive producers, and in which the Oscar winner for “Million Dollar Baby” will play the person in charge of the foreign policy of the State of the United States, linked to a program of the CIA training female agents to combat extremism.
Freeman, who adds another role as a high-ranking official of the US Executive to his career – this time Secretary of State – after the President he played in “Deep Impact” (1998) and his roles in the trilogy started with “Attack to the White House” (2013, 2016 and 2019), will take part with the character of Edwin Mullins in Sheridan’s new idea, which comes from reaping success after success with the strip “Yellowstone” and its two derivatives, “1883” and the imminent “1923”.
Already versed in the field of political and criminal thrillers, with the scripts for films such as “Sicario” (2015) and “With nothing to lose” (2016) and the series “Mayor of Kingstown” and the recent “Tulsa King”, Sheridan returns to the style with this plot inspired by a real CIA program, which trained undercover agents to defuse extremist cells from within.
In fiction, Canadian Laysla de Olivera is Cruz Manuelos, a passionate Marine who is recruited by the Lioness Engagement Team, led by Joe (Saldaña), with the mission of befriending the daughter of a terrorist hunted by the organization.
In addition to Nicole Kidman, the series produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios will also feature Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, LaMonica Garrett, James Jordan, Austin Hébert, Jonah Wharton, Stephanie Nur and Hannah Love Lanier among others.
This is the first leading role that Freeman will have in the television format, although his career in that medium dates back to 1971, when he began to participate as Mel Mounds -among other roles- in the children’s series “The Electric Company”.
Then, he had appearances during 1983 in the soap opera “Another World”, he acted in the miniseries “The Atlanta Child Murders” (1985) and was part of the political drama “Madam Secretary”, of the anthology series “Solos” and as a guest in the acclaimed comedy-drama “The Kominsky Method,” opposite Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin, for Netflix.
Of course, in the middle he built his coveted name for the Hollywood film circuit, which earned him not only the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for the aforementioned Clint Eastwood film in 2005 but also other relevant award nominations in the field. TELAM
