Michael Keaton Wins First Emmy Award for Hulu Series Dopesick | Pretty Reel

At Monday night’s Primetime Emmy Awards, Michael Keaton won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series, Movie or Anthology for his performance in the Hulu series Dopesick. This is Keaton’s first Emmy win after his previous nomination in 2004 for his work on the documentary Fred Rogers: America’s Favorite Neighbor. Keaton also won the Golden Globe and SAG Award for his role as Dopesick this year.

Other nominees in this category included Colin Firth for HBO’s The Staircase; Andrew Garfield for FX’s Under the Banner of Heaven; Oscar Isaac for HBO’s Scenes from a Wedding; Himesh Patel for HBO’s Station Eleven; and Sebastian Stan for Hulu’s Pam & Tommy.

“I watched all the cowboy shows, especially the comedies, and all the gangster shows, and I fell in love with it,” Keaton said in his acceptance speech, per THR. “I would go there and reenact the scenes, or create my own scenes, and my parents and siblings would watch me out the window. And to this day, they have never been demeaning. They were never dismissive. They never despised him. They never laughed at me. And in fact, they asked me to re-enact scenes for them.

Continuing to thank his family for this support, Keaton added, “I want to thank them. I just want to thank all those people in my family for never making me feel stupid because I kept doing it many times myself. And it’s feeling stupid and making a fool of yourself and making mistakes. There is enormous power and merit in this. And I’m glad I made fun of myself again and again and again. And one more thing I want to say: “Over the years, we have all been through difficult times. There were doubts. I had doubts. You know what ? We are cool. »

At one point, Keaton got a beep, even though the actor reportedly said, “I fucking love you. »

Michael Keaton will return as Batman in The Flash

It’s been widely reported that Michael Keaton will reprise his role as Batman from the Tim Burton movies for The Flash, which is set to hit theaters next year. He also returned as Batman for the HBO Max movie Batgirl, but fans won’t see that return as the movie was controversially canceled by Warner Bros. Discovery. Speaking to Deadline right after her Emmy win, Keaton opened up about Batgirl’s disappearance and attributed it to a business decision.

“I think it was a business decision,” he said. “It was a movie, it was a good movie. »

When we see his Batman again, Keaton replied, “Oh, a little later tonight. No just kidding. I do not know. I really have no idea. »

You can check out Keaton in Dopesick by finding the series streaming on Hulu. He will also return as Batman in The Flash which hits theaters on June 23, 2023.
