Me Time: Critics smashed this Netflix movie starring Mark Wahlberg and Kevin Hart

Announced several weeks ago, the American comedy Me Time by John Hamburg has been available for several days on Netflix. Since it stars Mark Wahlberg and Kevin Hart, two stars appreciated for their sense of humor, we expected success to be there.

Unfortunately, it is not the case. The film was massacred by the critics who gave it a welcome worthy of the greatest nanars. The two headliners were not spared either. To the point where the two stars received, from Rotten Tomatoes, their lowest ratings for a movie. But for the two actors, these criticisms are not important since the essence about the film is elsewhere.

Me Time receives a sadly negative reception despite its very interesting potential

Several factors worked in favor of Me Time. First, the collaboration between Mark Wahlberg and Kevin Hart was very promising on paper. The two actors are world famous with an already well-filled CV.

Mark Wahlberg, thanks to his roles in films like The Kings of the Desert, Infiltrators, No Pain No Gain Where transformers has received numerous accolades including two Oscar nominations. Which allowed him to be designated in 2017 as the highest paid actor in the world according to Forbes magazine. Not to mention the fact that he’s already had comedy success with buddies movies like Ted, Very Bad Cops Where Very Bad Dads.

Kevin Hart meanwhile, is considered one of the kings of American laughter. He entertained us with his antics in Think Like a Man, Almost Secret Agents, Back to School or Jumanji. In addition to the know-how of his duo, Me Time could count on a sizeable budget, said Lindsey Bahr of the Associated Press.

All that potential unfortunately didn’t stop the film from flop upon release. It received a lousy 7% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Similarly, its audience is only 29% according to the site’s evaluation criteria. Additionally, acclaimed critic Richard Roeper called the film “incredibly unfunny” while Peter Travers called it “overwhelming, disposable stupidity.”

Me Time nevertheless leaves a beautiful memory to Mark Wahlberg and Kevin Hart

Despite the poor reception, the cast of the film said they shared a fun experience on set. While confiding in Entertainment Weely, Mark Wahlberg said John Hamburg challenged him to shoot a scene literally naked.

He added that he finally picked him up embarrassed despite his embarrassment at the start. Like Hart, he enjoyed the experience. The scene that was not part of the script, he said, gave another dynamic to the film. Likewise, the actor admits never having laughed so much on another film set than that of Me Time. We, on the other hand, had a lot of trouble laughing at the film.

Me Time tells the story of a stay-at-home dad, Sonny Fisher, who thought he was having a peaceful, alone time while his family was away. He will quickly reunite with his old party friend Huck Dembo. Sonny and Huck, respectively played by Kevin Hart and Mark Wahlberg will then rediscover their youthful madness. The film is available on Netflix since August 26, 2022.
