Matthew Perry Quit Leonardo DiCaprio’s Meryl Streep After His Heart ‘Stopped’ For Five Minutes – Up News Info

Matthew Perry recalls the time he had to drop out of ‘Don’t Look Up’ with Leonardo DiCaprio and Meryl Streep after a medical alert ‘stopped’ his heart for five minutes.

In his upcoming memoir, “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing,” the 53-year-old actor recounts being in a rehabilitation center in Switzerland while filming the movie. According to his memoir, he was unable to completely give up his addiction and lied to doctors about severe stomach pains so that he was prescribed hydrocodone.

“Actually, I was fine,” Perry, 53, wrote, according to Rolling Stone. “I still felt like I was constantly doing sit-ups – so it was very uncomfortable – but it wasn’t painful.”

Doctors felt that a “medical device” in his back, requiring surgery, would best help ease the actor’s pain, Perry said.

According to Perry, he took hydrocodone the day before the operation and received propofol for anesthesia during the operation. This combination is what stopped his heart.

“I was kicked at 11:00,” Perry wrote, according to the outlet.

“I woke up eleven hours later in another hospital. Apparently the propofol had stopped my heart. For five minutes. It wasn’t a heart attack – I wasn’t flat – but nothing was beating. I was told that some beefy Swiss guy really didn’t want the guy from “Friends” to die on his table and did CPR on me for five minutes, punching me and kicking my chest. If I hadn’t been on “Friends”, would it have stopped at three minutes? Did “Friends” save my life again?”

Matthew Perry previously said he spent "probably $9 million" trying to get sober over the years.

Perry added: “He may have saved my life, but he also broke eight ribs.”

The actor noted that he was in too much pain after the incident to return to the “Don’t Look Up” set. He wrote that this decision was “heartbreaking”.

The outlet reported that the ‘Friends’ star, who began portraying Chandler Bing on the popular sitcom when he was just 24, was set to star as a Republican reporter on ‘Don’t Look Up ” before the health crisis. He even reportedly shot a scene with Jonah Hill, but that didn’t make it into the movie’s release.

Perry wrote in his memoir that the role in Adam McKay’s Netflix movie would have been the “greatest movie I’ve ever had.” His role would have been written in scenes with the legendary Streep.

Her memoir, “Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing,” comes out November 1. The star has been promoting her upcoming book for the past few weeks. In an interview with The New York Times on Sunday, he revealed he spent $9 million trying to get sober.

Perry opened up about her decades-long battle with alcohol and drugs in her early memoir.
