Marvel: Black Panther 2 was supposed to be very different before Chadwick Boseman died

Black Panther 2 was initially very different from the version that Marvel will reveal and Ryan Coogler returned to this abandoned version with Chadwick Boseman.

The disappearance of Chadwick Boseman in 2020 was a real shock for the whole world. The actor who lent his features to T’Challa, the protector of Wakanda in the disappointing Black Panther of Ryan Coogler was a symbol for a whole youth who could identify with the first black superhero.

It was expected that the actor will return for a sequel but taken away by illness, Marvel found himself with a difficult choice to make: give the role of T’Challa to someone else or deal with the death of the American. If Kevin Feige decided and explained why he did not want to choose a new actor for Black Panther 2, the director revealed what Black Panther: Wakanda Forever could have been if Chadwick Boseman was still with us.

“Everywhere I go, I see his face…”

If we could suspect that this second opus was going to have a resonance with the tragedy mentioned above, the feature film will certainly focus on how to move forward without T’Challa while paying tribute to him with the mourning of a whole people. It is through an interview with The Hollywood Reporter with actress Lupita Nyong’o and filmmaker Ryan Coogler at the helm of the first film and its sequel we learned that the second episode was supposed to initially focus on the character of T’Challa :

“The script we wrote before Chadwick’s passing was very grounded in T’Challa’s perspective. It was a massive film but also simultaneously a character study that delved deep into his psyche and situation.”

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever: PicturesA great power…

It is true that the final film will no longer have anything to do with the original version, the trajectory chosen by Marvel seeming to them more relevant than replacing the deceased with another actor. A decision discussed by fans but which is also explained by the fact that Black Panther existed long before T’Challa. He who took up the torch from an elder, it is now his turn to hand over the torch to an heir…unless Marvel has chosen an heiress for the new Black Panther?

Still, it will be interesting to see how the work turns out. She has the daunting task of introducing new characters while paying vibrant homage to the face of the previous film. To see if the production will succeed or not to hold the road, the appointment is fixed at November 9, 2022 in French cinemas.
