Marvel: After Deadpool 3, Hugh Jackman Could Resume His Role As Wolverine In This Next MCU Film

With Ryan Reynolds’ recent announcement regarding Wolverine’s return to Deadpool 3, one wonders if the clawed mutant will officially be integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) or if he will simply be used for the Shawn Levy film. But given the upcoming Marvel projects, we have every right to believe that Wolverine will return!

Wolverine’s return is now official

This Tuesday, September 27, Ryan Reynolds posted a video on his Twitter account in which he teases the return of Hugh Jackman in the skin of Wolverine. This sequence of just over a minute is used to promote Deadpool 3, which will be rooted in the MCU. According to Ryan Reynolds, Logan’s cult comedian will therefore be back in Shawn Levy’s film. We also learned that this third opus will be released on September 6, 2024.

But a question still remains. Will Hugh Jackman just return for Deadpool 3 or will he be the face of Wolverine in the MCU? A difficult question since arguments go both ways. There is nevertheless a film in which Hugh Jackman could return to the role of Logan after Deadpool 3.

Avengers: Secret Wars, a historic reunion

After Logan, Hugh Jackman has confirmed that he will not return to the role of Wolverine. However, obviously, Ryan Reynolds managed to change his friend’s mind for the purposes of Deadpool 3. But this decision does not necessarily mean that Hugh Jackman will be the face of Logan in the MCU. Especially that Marvel Studios was thinking about rejuvenating the character and recasting the X-Men to introduce new faces to the MCU. If we follow this logic, Hugh Jackman should then only return for Deadpool 3.

There is, however, a film in which Hugh Jackman could reprise the role of the clawed mutant. It is in fact about Avengers: Secret Wars. Waited for the November 5, 2025this huge crossover is adapted from the eponymous comics by Jonathan Hickman released in 2015. In this cult story, the story tells of the collision between two universes: Earth-616 and Earth-1610. The opportunity for Marvel Comics to bring together all its characters, especially the Ultimates, within a single continuity. After this huge crossover, characters like Miles Morales or Old Man Logan found themselves evolving on Earth-616.

Logically, Marvel Studios should follow the same pattern. If we trust the title of the film, this Secret Wars should also tell of an unprecedented multiversal meeting. Since Spider-Man: No Way Home, Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness already address these themes, Avengers: Secret Wars should be an apotheosis of the genre.

With this film, Marvel Studios has no limits and can bring back iconic characters like Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man, Wesley Snipes as Blade and therefore Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Secret Wars can even be a way to bring back all the old X-Men for a new adventure, before integrating them or not, for the rest of the MCU. Therefore, we, we bet Hugh Jackman will also be in Avengers: Secret Wars.
