Katie Holmes Thinks ‘Dawson’s Creek’ Reboot Is a Bad Idea – Nifey

Cue it Paula Cole theme song! Katie Holmes recently shared his thoughts on a potential Dawson’s Creek reboot – and a return to Capeside is not in his future.

“We’ve definitely talked about it over the years,” Holmes, 43, said. Screen Rant in an interview published Monday, July 25. “But I feel like this show captured that period and that time of all of our lives.”

The show, broadcast from 1998 to 2003 and created by Kevin Williamsonfollowed the life of budding filmmaker Dawson Leery (james van der beek), his best friend Joey Potter (Holmes), who has been in love with him since childhood, his close friend Pacey Witter (Joshua Jackson) and new girl next door Jen Lindley (michelle williams) as they suffer growing pains and the ups and downs of high school.

Holmes, who starred on the WB series for its entirety of six seasons, explained that she was “so grateful for the experience” but can’t see how the same magic could be captured again.

“I think it’s great that you’re nostalgic about it. Me too. But it’s as if we don’t want to see them at that age? she joked. “We all decided not to [want a reboot] actually,” she said of her teammates Williams, 41, Van Der Beek, 45, and Jackson, 44.

This isn’t the first time Holmes has spoken out against a possible revival. The Secret the actress told the Today’s show in 2016 than trying TV series like Dawson’s Creek in 2022 would not have the same “certain charm” as before the new millennium.

“That was before the internet really took over,” she explained. “It was before iPhones, it was before this kind of new form of communication, and it had this certain feeling that was 90s. I don’t think in today’s world you can feel the same kind of feeling.

The Disturbing behavior the star’s claims are backed up by Jackson, who joked that The Guardian in September 2021 that “no one needs to hear [my character] Pacey grunts when he gets up from a chair,” explaining that it’s less appealing for actors to return when the characters they played were teenagers.

“I think because Friends the actors were already adults when they made the series, it’s less shocking to see them now,” said the Dr. Death said the star. “If you meet now in your 40s on a couch, with our backs creaking, it might shock people.”

However, not all actors are on board with leaving the creek behind. Marie-Margaret Humeswho played Dawson’s mother, Gail Leery, said People in March 2021 that she once wrote “190 pages of an idea for a crossover to a reboot” for the hit teen drama series.

“I don’t know if it’s going anywhere, but there’s definitely a lot of buzz about it,” the 68-year-old Florida native said.
