When is John Wick: Chapter 4 released?

Announced in May 2019 in parallel with the release of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum in cinemas, the fourth opus in the John Wick saga has experienced a development that is chaotic to say the least. Originally scheduled for May 21, 2021, the Chad Stahelski-directed film was postponed for almost two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic as well as its main actor Keanu Reeves’ obligations on Matrix Resurrections. John Wick: Chapter 4 will finally be released on March 22, 2023 in France and two days later in the United States.

John Wick: Chapter 4 lands in French movie theaters in March 2023, almost four years to the day after the release of the third episode of the saga. Four months later, fans of physical editions will be able to afford the Blu ray and/or the DVD. According to the media chronology that governs the distribution of a film in France after its theatrical release, Canal+ could then broadcast John Wick 4 from September. As to SVOD services, they will have to wait between 15 months (Netflix) and 17 months (Amazon Prime, Disney, etc.) to add the feature film to their catalog. With the first trilogy currently available on Amazon Prime, it’s highly likely JW4 will join them in 2024, and not sooner.

John Wick: Chapter 4 is Sequel to John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and resumes in media res after the events of the latter. At the end of the first trilogy, the newly retired killer nicknamed Baba Yaga is left for dead following the betrayal of Winston, the manager of the Continental hotel located in New York. Seriously injured, but saved by the Bowery King, John Wick embarks on an epic that will take him to the four corners of the world – Osaka – Paris – Berlin – with the main objective of destroying the Big Table, the criminal organization having put its head at price.

Who are the creatives behind John Wick: Chapter 4?

The realization of John Wick: Chapter 4 is entrusted, not surprisingly, to Chad Stahelski. This American stuntman and director is at the origin of the franchise and directed the three previous parts. He was also a producer on the films Bruised and Day Shift (Netflix). The screenplay, based on the characters created by Derek Kolstad (Nobody), was born from the collaboration between Shay Hatten (Army of the Dead, Day Shift) and Michael Finch (American Assassin, Predators). Photography returns to Dan Laustsen who notably distinguished himself on two feature films by Guillermo del Toro… The Shape of Water and Nightmare Alley. The latter has also officiated in the same position on the other episodes of the saga. Finally, the soundtrack is composed by Tyler Bates which you have already heard in Sucker Punch, Atomic Blonde and of course the previous John Wick films.

The John Wick character is portrayed by none other than Keanu Reeves (Cyberpunk 2077, Matrix) in person. Laurence Fishburne (Matrix), Lance Riddick (Resident Evil – Netflix) and Ian MacShane (Deadwood) also reprise their respective roles as the Bowery King as well as Charon and Winston from the Continental Hotel. Our repentant killer will face this time Hiroyuki Sanada (Bullet Train, Mortal Kombat), Scott Adkins (Boyka Only One Will Become Invincible, Expendables 2 Special Unit), Rina Sawayama, Bill Skarsgard (Deadpool 2, It) and last but not least… the legend of martial arts cinema Donnie Yen (Ip Man, Rogue One A Star Wars Story).
