While most of today’s horror movies are set on a movie set, the iconic Halloween original film sees Jamie Lee Curies being stalked by Mike Myers in a real horror house, and one superfan has one. made an actual replica.
Le Hillsborough, North Carolina, the replica is the personal residence of horror fan Kenny Caperton, who grew up obsessed with all things scary.
Caperton’s favorite fictional serial killer, however, was Michael Myers, and the 1978 classic has always been his favorite film, according to the replica house’s website.
When the horror fan was looking for a home at the age of 26 in 2008, he took a trip to see the real Myers house in South Pasadena, Calif., And was inspired to create his own.
This turned out to be a difficult assignment, as Caperton had none of the plans for the original house, without mentioning any land to his name.
But he was determined to build the custom home of his dreams and ended up designing the home layout and floor plan himself on a sheet of paper, and found an architect to bring it to life, as well as ‘a land and a constructor. ready to register for such a project.
After securing funding and the Myers House was completed in almost a year and a half, in March 2009.
However, while the exterior of the house was designed to resemble the original as closely as possible, the interior of the original house built in 1888 was not ideal for a modern personal residence, as it lacked basic necessities such as bathrooms and kitchens.
Additionally, while the original house has four small bedrooms, Caperton’s version includes a few bathrooms, larger bedrooms, a utility room, and a few other modifications.
Still, Myer’s sister Judith’s bedroom, hallways, staircase, and basic kitchen, dining, and living room locations are all in the same places as in the movie.
Additionally, while the original house was in a suburban neighborhood, the replica was built on more than five acres of old farmland in the countryside.
As for the decorations inside the home replica, Caperton opted to go for a more rustic farmhouse-inspired look instead of the ’70s look of the original.
But, of course, the house is always filled with vintage Halloween decorations and horror movie memorabilia.
While the original Spookhouse looked exactly like it was when Brian Andrews and Jamie Lee Curtis took different routes to school to put the key under the rug at home, the film crew had to. repair and whitewash the front and bottom right in order to film the opening scene where little Mike Myers murders his older sister Judith in the upstairs bedroom.
Built in 1888, the original house made famous by murderer Mike Myers has been recognized by South Pasadena as possibly the city’s oldest frame residence, according to the Myers House website.
Historians consider it the city’s first duplex, blending architectural styles, with Midwestern Greek Revival and salt box features, as well as Eastlake features like the gable adornments.
It was to be demolished in 1987 and replaced with a hospital, but it was recovered and moved from its original location at 709 Meridian Avenue to its current address at 1000 Mission Street.
The current owner, David Margrave, stopped the demolition of the house just as it was about to begin, before asking the previous owner, Dr Joseph Kohn, if he could buy it with a dollar in silver.
Margrave also had to promise Dr Kohn that he would move the house in a week.
Having no property to put the house, Margrave transported the old structure to a nearby railroad property.
Although he did not have permission from the city to move the house to this property, the house remains there today because the city recognized the historical value of “The Century House” and allowed it to move. to stay.
Part of the house that was placed in the back for the Halloween set had to be removed due to this move, but everything else is exactly as it was when the original movie was filmed.
Today, the house serves as the headquarters for several local businesses. Changes were therefore made to the interior or various rooms as well as to the exterior, which was renovated and painted in light blue with red trim.
Those wishing to experience Mike Myers’ original home can do so by getting off the train at the Mission Station stop in South Pasadena.
Unfortunately, the interior of the home is generally off limits, as business owners who work indoors don’t like to be disturbed by Halloween fans while they are working.
Halloween Kills, starring Jamie Lee Curtis, is set to arrive in theaters in October 2021.
