“Honored”. Throughout his day Deauville (Calvados), Jesse Eisenberg never ceased to repeat this word with great sincerity to all the microphones held out to him. “Honored” to be expected by many fans under a blazing sun on the boards for the inauguration of his cabin. But also and above all honored to be invited to this French festival which celebrates American cinema. “When I learned that I was going to receive this honour, I was very surprised and touched, he comments, on the CID stage, before receiving his Deauville Talent Award. Working in the art world is so unpredictable and you always feel like your career is about to end. Receiving an award like that makes you think there might still be some gas left in the tank.”

In a speech punctuated with humor and irony, Jesse Eisenberg wondered how he could “stay productive” in a sector that “demands novelty”. He says: “I remember when I started acting at the age of 18, everyone was impressed by my ability to memorize my lines, to arrive on time on the set without being stoned. As you get older, it’s no longer impressive. So I started writing plays for theaters on Broadway, and again I was young and it was super impressive. […] Thirteen years and four plays later, it’s not as impressive as it used to be. […] After making this movie, I realized that I’m at a point in my life where nothing I do is going to look impressive to anyone.” And concludes: “The answer is the same for everyone: if you do something that you really love to do, the real success is simply to be able to continue doing it”.
