Six years after the success of La La Land, Damien Chazelle is back in theaters with babylon. This historical fresco recounts the transition from silent cinema to talkies in Hollywood in the years and features the star of the big screen brad pitt.
The actor plays Jack Conrad, a comedian at the end of his career who tries to stay at the top. Present in Paris for the preview of the film at the Grand Rex, Brad Pitt returned to the microphone of BFMTV, on this role which was assigned to him by Damien Chazelle.
“I feel close to him. Like him, I’m still passionate about films, I want to push my limits. I still have this fire in me,” he says.

And it is in particular for the common points between the actor of 59 years and the main character of the film that Damien Chazelle appealed to Brad Pitt. “Brad is part of a tradition of big stars in Hollywood, which exists less and less today”, assures the filmmaker to BFMTV.
Brad Pitt says he also enjoyed collaborating with the filmmaker, the youngest winner of the Best Director Oscar for his film La La Land released in 2016 with Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.
“With him it goes faster because even if the takes are long, people come and go, we are looking for the perfect take and when we get it, we can go eat,” jokes Brad Pitt at the microphone of BFMTV. “It looks like a race and it’s really funny.”
15 years of reflections
If he has since worked on many other successful films such as whiplash (2014) or First Man: The First Man on the Moon (2018), it’s been more than 15 years since Damien Chazelle had the idea for the screenplay of babylon.
“I wanted to know where we come from, the origin of cinema. During the Babylon era, Hollywood was transformed into a huge industry with a lot of money. This change has fascinated me for a long time,” he says.
To give the reply to Brad Pitt, the filmmaker called on the actress Margot Robbie, who plays the character of Nellie LaRoy. She is joined on screen by Diego Calva, Jean Smart and Jovan Adepo. babylon will be released in French theaters this Wednesday, January 18.
