Hilary Duff celebrates labor and childbirth with a series of powerful photos.
The images, which were captured by birth photographer Lauren Guilford, show Duff, 33, welcoming her third child, daughter Mae Blair, to the home on March 24.
“In order for me to feel safe during childbirth and to get to where I need to go, having the right support system is crucial,” Duff wrote on Instagram. “The perfect amount of space, back pressure, humor, stillness, and people who support my power. “
The “Younger” actor praised her husband, Matthew Koma, for keeping her centered.
“My husband is the quietest anchor in the room when I feel like climbing walls,” Duff revealed, noting that Koma worked alongside his “extraordinary” doula, Molly Bernard.
Duff’s mother, Susan Duff, was also on hand to “make all the snacks” and attend the birth of the newest member of the family. Duff shares her 2-year-old daughter, Banks, with Koma, and her 9-year-old son, Luca, with her ex-husband, Mike Comrie.
“All hands on the deck. Forever lol. It’s hard work… all the ways a woman brings a baby is. From pregnancy to cesarean sections, through deliveries in the hospital or at home, the breastfeeding journey (yes what I get every time) and the education of these little beings in a responsible way to be upright, confident and kind citizens of the world, ”Duff wrote. . “It’s completely devouring. A tedious, magical, miraculous adventure… So bravo to the all-powerful mothers. You move the mountains every day.
In the series of photos, which highlight the beauty and intimacy of childbirth, Duff is seen working out on an exercise ball and surrounded by “dog bath mats” as Bernard exercises a pressure on her lower back. Duff, who wore full makeup and a black turtleneck, also included a snapshot of his vision board, decorated with quotes such as “My body and my baby know what to do.”
Although Big Brother Luca does not appear in any of the shots, he was in the room when Mae let out his first cry.
“It was pretty important to me (for Luca to be there) because I really like being open and honest with him about the strength of women and what childbirth is like,” Duff said while speaking with Dr. Elliott Berlin on the “Informed Pregnancy Podcast”. “He knows all about the rules and it’s important for me to normalize this conversation with him for all the women who are going to be in his life. ”
