Halloween Ends, the last film in the saga with Jamie Lee Curtis: our review

The horror films will not be missing in the halls of movie theater for Halloween 2022. Outraged The Devil’s Preyit is this period, very adequate, which was also chosen, not at random therefore, to conclude, once and for all, the horror saga Halloweenstarted by John Carpenter in 1978. Halloween Endsthe final part of the adventures of killer michael myerswith notably Jamie Lee Curtisexits at movie theater the October 12, 2022. That is (almost) a year after the previous opus, Halloween Kills.

This last part of the saga around the killer in mask and of laurie strodeembodied by Jamie Lee Curtis since 1978, is again signed by the same team that relaunched the franchise in 2018, and is therefore on its third film. Behind the camera there is always David GordonGreen which features a story co-written with Danny McBride. In production, we find in particular John Carpenter and Jason Blum.

Outraged Jamie Lee Curtiswho, at 63, dons the costume of laurie strodecharacter who launched his career, to the interpretation there is also Andi Matichak, Kyle Richards, Judy Greer and Will Pattonalready present in Halloween Kills.

Synopsis of Halloween Ends :

Four years after the events ofHalloween KillsLaurie (Jamie Lee Curtis) now lives with her granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) and finished writing his memoirs. Michael Myers hasn’t shown up lately. After allowing Michael’s shadow to hang over her life for decades, she finally decided to let go of fear and anger and turn to life. But when a young man, Corey Cunningham (rohan campbell), is accused of having murdered a boy he was babysitting, Laurie will have to face one last time the evil forces that escape her, in a surge of violence and terror…

Our review :

For years we have wondered if laurie strode will finally end up having the skin of Michael Myers. And this final film which closes the sagastarted decades ago, provides a definitive answer to the question, with no possible backtracking or yet another conceivable sequel.

Regarding a possible sequel, we were very afraid. Because before the final confrontation between Jamie Lee Curtis and the killer in the mask, the director (and the writers) played us well, throughout the filmdeveloping in particular the theory of an accomplice and even a disciple.

In Halloween Endswe appreciate finding Jamie Lee Curtis in the skin of laurie strode, who has moved and is in the process of writing his memoirs. We also like to listen to the mythical music composed by John Carpenterremixed for the occasion, as well as reviewing the images of the previous movies reused for flashbacks. If the nostalgia is beautiful and very present, we yearn to see, finally, on the screen Michael Myers. Because the authors are also playing us on this aspect: his return, on the big screen, benefits from a very beautiful staging. The killer in the mask bursts the screen, with an aesthetic reminiscent of a certain James Bond. However, you have to wait close to an hour for Michael Myers commits his first murder in Halloween Ends. It’s quite long. Especially since the explanation of where the killer was hiding during the few years that separate Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends seems unbelievable.

Whether Halloween Ends puts an end to this story and closes the film saga for good, however, we would have liked the film to go a little further. This story, which began in 1978, could have deserved a slightly grander ending.
