On August 9 in theaters, Sony will offer its adaptation of the cult license Gran Turismo by telling the true story of the prodigy Jann Mardenborough, played by Archie Madekwe. On the program of the story, and without great surprise: high-speed races, a good dose of adrenaline, but also “nausea, 200 km per hour” according to one of the stars of the feature film, actor David Harbour, who does not hesitate to put the production in the same category as Top Gun Maverickthe latest installment of the cult saga worn by Tom Cruise and directed by Joseph Kosinski.

And to add that a large reinforcement of VFX would not have been adapted to this type of film: “I don’t know how Joseph Kosinski is, but I’m sure he wanted the same thing. We just have to make it look real”. He adds :

I really hope we do as well as Top Gun: Maverick. But I made that comparison. I think there’s kind of a throwback to the pacing of this movie and what it does, and that’s the case for us as well. I have the impression that we are very close to these films and that we belong to the same family as them.

What is the scenario?

Sony didn’t have to look far to find the pitch that would bring the film adaptation of the Kazunori Yamauchi games to life. The story is about a very real young man, Jann Mardenborough, a top franchise player who was so good behind the wheel that he became a professional driver. The young enthusiast ended up winner of the GT Academy, an international competition organized by Sony. And it was Nissan who officially picked him up as a driver. The winner will even participate in the 24 hours of Le Mans in 2013, 2014 and 2015. Yamauchi is one of the executive producers of the film alongside Hermen Hulst (the number 1 of PlayStation Studios).

At the realization, we find Neill Blomkamp. In the casting, we can count on the presence of Archie Madekwe (Midsommar, Teen Spirit, Beau Is Afraid) to embody the game prodigy. He gives the answer here to the star David Harbor (Stranger Things) who plays the circumspect trainer, or Orlando Bloom (Pirates of the Caribbean) who returns to the cinema in the shoes of the marketer as well as to Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond , Gladiator), who plays the protagonist’s father.
