We are only a few weeks away from the release of “Ghostbusters: The Legacy”. The opportunity for Dan Aykroyd to talk about his return to Jason Reitman’s film, several decades after “Ghostbusters 2”.
Ghostbusters: The Legacy – the whole gang is back
Expected on December 1st, Ghostbusters: The Legacy will follow the first two opus released in the 1980s. For the occasion, Jason Reitman succeeds his father Ivan Reitman in directing. Indeed, the latter had staged the first two episodes of the saga Ghostbusters, released in 1984 and 1989.
Over the years, these two fantastic comedies have become classics of the seventh art. At the time, the beetle had an impressive cast, notably worn by Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and the late Harold Ramis, died in 2014. Between them, the films have grossed more than $ 511 million in box office revenue.
In 2016, Paul Feig decided to do a female reboot of the license. In front of his camera, he engages a cast including Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and Chris Hemsworth in the role of secretary. The opportunity for Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Sigourney Weaver to make a short appearance in the film. But nothing really unforgettable.
So with Ghostbusters: The Legacy, Jason Reitman wants to offer a real sequel to his father’s two parts. The opportunity for him to bring back the original cast, accompanied by new ones. Indeed, Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard and Mckenna Grace are also on the bill.
Dan Aykroyd in heaven!
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Dan Aykroyd returned to the set of Ghostbusters: The Legacy and the joy of reprising the role of Ray Stantz. The film will therefore mark the comedian’s fourth appearance in this role. And here’s what he had to say about this new sequel:
It was total joy. What a privilege to be invited to do this. It was a creative satisfaction to work again with Ernie, Bill and Sigourney. Without Jason and Ivan, I don’t know if we would have had this wonderful cast. To hang out with brothers like that, as a family, it’s always fun. It brought back memories, both good and bad.
Obviously, the original cast will have limited influence on the script. The story indeed focuses mainly on new characters. But the old Ghostbusters will still have a role to play. While waiting for the film to be released on December 1st, we leave you with these few images:
