Game of Thrones: What was the ending Emilia Clarke wanted for Daenerys Targaryen

Game of Thrones may have been one of the most successful series of recent times. But, there is no denying that the HBO drama delivered a disappointing ending for millions of fans. The way Daenerys Tagaryen’s arc closed was an upset to many, and apparently this includes her own interpreter, Emilia Clarke.

A literary work of which only three quarters have been written according to the author himself. Due to the fact that they did not have source material to close the story of the television adaptation that came to an end in 2019, the creative team was in charge of giving a conclusion in their own way. The end of Game of Thrones was a disappointment for millions of fans around the world. The way the story of the fantasy drama ended was not to the liking of the viewers, who have just realized that the first season of the prequel House of the Dragoncould have corrected this error. A spin-off that is apparently appeasing the discomfort generated three years ago.

While fans aren’t happy with the conclusion of Game of Thrones, it’s good to know that they’re not alone in this. The actors of some of the most influential characters in the series feel the same way. For example, Emilia Clarke in particular, she was devastated by the way her character Daenerys Targaryen’s story ended and the ending of the historical fantasy drama as a whole.

Let’s remember that the story of the Mother of Dragons, as Daenerys Targaryen was also known in Game of Thrones, got worse as the end of the HBO series approached. Fans felt that the writers had failed them, and Emilia Clarke’s own character, by making her the Mad Queen in the last few episodes of season 8, leading to her imminent death at the hands of Jon Snow (Kit Harington), since it was the only way to stop her.

Daenerys was a character who started almost from scratch, hatched three dragons, lost everything she held dear, and built an empire. She spent season after season as a heroic character, taking care of her subjects and being fair, until she suddenly took a dramatic and dark turn in the second half of Season 8, leading to the finale when she burned King’s Landing to the ground while he rode on the back of his dragon, Drogon.

Unsurprisingly, this left Game of Thrones fans feeling a bitter taste about the character they’ve loved since the start of the series and who was rightfully seeking to reclaim his Iron Throne. This was seen as the writers rushing the end of season 8 and the series, at the expense of Daenerys Targaryen. In fact, Emilia Clarke said at Dreamit Con before the finale, that he wished his character would have a happier ending. One very different from the one that everyone saw on the screen and in which Daenerys and Jon Snow were alive and ended up together.

“I want Daenerys to be with him, with Jon. They could go to family therapy and fix their problems. Daenerys is a very hopeful character; she has high hopes and she wishes she could make it,” said Emilia Clarke.
