Ana de Armas does not want James Bond to be replaced by a woman but wants a better valorization of female characters in the franchise.

“Stealing” a character to “feminize” it?
Accustomed to the roles ofovertrained agent in the biggest blockbuster of action, Ana de Armas notably distinguished herself in Dying can wait.
She played Paloma, a CIA agent alongside Daniel Craig. A role before which we were surprised to dream : rather than continuously assist James Bond and remain in the backgroundcould she have embody it ?

Valuing female characters
Whether james bond regularly shines with its sexism and its gender norms excruciatingly boring, Ana de Armas explained that these choices of representation referred to the imagination of the main character :
“The novels lead us into a whole world of fantasies in which James Bond gravitates. Therefore, what I would like is for the female roles in the 007 films to be staged differently. We have to give them more substance and an true recognition. Seems more interesting to me than flipping things around. »
In 2021, another actress of the saga had expressed an opinion that shed much more light on the power of industry over these questions. Lashana Lynch, racialized interpreter of 007 thus asserted in the columns of The Guardian :
“We are in a time where the industry is not just giving the public what it thinks the public wants. In fact, she gives the public what she wants to give them. Bond could be male or female. They could be white, black, Asian, mixed race. They can be young or old. At the end of the day, even if a two-year-old was playing Bond, everyone would flock to the cinema to see what this two-year-old is up to, Nope ? »
