About 16 years ago or so, I was given the opportunity to help update the residence and search for many new treasures. Working side by side, we remade all the finishes, putting their particular stamp of opulent comfort, theatrical elegance and a timeless color palette.

Massangis limestone, purchased from Exquisite Surfaces, is the star of this bathroom. Weathered mirror-paneled walls offset an antique 19th-century Indian mirror, purchased at Guinivere Antiques in London. Bullard’s workshop created the custom wall sconces, and the brass faucets are from Waterworks.

Cher’s Shrine

Talented artists painted the ceilings with oriental motifs, they also did the same with the mirrors to create magical reflective walls, and created a romantic moroccan style lighting that gives warmth to the environment. The walls and curtains of her bedroom, covered in raw silk, were stenciled with a mixture of tea leaves and coffee grounds mixed with amber-colored paint pigments to recreate the traditional henna designs that he once wore at a wedding in India. The Moroccan Mashrabiya wood paneling that covers her bedroom’s private sitting room was hand-carved in Fez. “My bedroom has been my sanctuary, my fortress, my most special place,” confesses Cher.

The entertainment rooms are flooded with light and designed so that the impressive views through the windows are the protagonists of the space. From the spacious living room, perspective flows through swimming pool infinite that seems to go beyond the Pacific Ocean. And when you sit in the living room, you feel as if you are floating in a turquoise sea. Malibu’s strict building laws would prevent the construction of a house of this magnitude today. And now, after 20 years, Cher is ready to create a new sanctuary. “This house has been one of the greatest passions of my life,” says the superstar. “I have enjoyed every moment of its creation and evolution, but now the time has come to pass this magic on to others.”
