Daniel Craig said goodbye to James Bond in no time to die. But not only him, but we the viewers also had to say goodbye to an entire era and saga of films. Now in an interview with Los Angeles Timesthe British actor revealed the primary reasons why he finally decided to end his relationship with the secret agent.
While in the promotion of the upcoming Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Craig spoke of his resolution to step back from playing one of the most famous characters of all time. He explained that there were two reasons for “killing off the character.”
“Two reasons, one for me and one for the franchise,” said the actor. “I was like, ‘Well, they need to start over.’ So let’s kill off the character and find another Bond and find another story. It starts at 23, it starts at 25, it starts at 30.”
But mostly the main reason was more for his own benefit as a person. She said it this way:
“The other was so that I could move on,” Craig explained. “I do not want to go back. I guess I’d be very lucky if they asked me back, but the fact remains that I need to put it behind me. The sacrifice he makes in the movie was out of love, and there is no greater sacrifice. So it seemed like a good way to end it.”
In no time to die, James Bond perishes during the climax of the film. His character has no choice. After learning that he is the father of a little girl, he embarks on the greatest mission of all: to give up her own life so that she and the entire world can follow.
The ending is certainly poetic, so it was necessary for the actor to return to give a proper and emotional closure to his time with the character. Prior to that, the actor was injured during the filming of Specter with Sam Mendes. He broke his leg while filming an action sequence with Dave Bautista. From then on Daniel Craig had to reevaluate his relationship with James Bond.
“I had to ask myself: Am I physically capable of doing [otra] Or do I want to do another? Because that phone call to your wife saying ‘I broke my leg’ is not nice.” commented Craig back then.
Fortunately, producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson convinced him to come back one last time. The closure of the character of him can be seen in no time to die, available in the Prime Video catalog. In the meantime Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery It will arrive on Netflix on December 23.
Luis Angel H. Mora My most stable relationship is with the movies, parties and music. I love writing about cinema, meeting new people and sharing ideas. Idealistic in every way, I guess that’s my Ascendant Aquarian trait.
