In the age of infinite remakes and franchises, a new version of The Rose, the 1979 film starring Bette Midler. But in the heat of the movements against racism, that of now it will be a black rose: will be interpreted by Cynthia Erivo.

The original film, directed by Mark Rydell and starring Midler, Frederic Forrest and the late Alan Bates and Harry Dean Stanton, was loosely based on the life of Janis Joplin. It is considered by many as the quintessential film about fame and addiction.

In fiction, Mary Rose (Midler) is a rock singer who goes from concert to concert. Her success increases dramatically and she falls into alcohol and drug use. His health suffers in such a way that in one of his performances the inevitable happens.

The intention of this new version is “put a contemporary lens at the high price of fame“, as they declared to Variety production sources. Who will direct and write the script has not yet been revealed.
Erivo just produced the live-action adaptation of Pinocchio, from Disney, where he plays the Blue Fairy. Directed by Robert Zemeckis, in this film Tom Hanks plays Gepetto and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth plays the doll that comes to life. There is still no precise information about the premiere, it is only known that it will be sometime in 2022 on the Disney + platform.
