Charlize Theron stars as Evil in new Netflix movie

After the series adaptation of the adventures of Winx (2021) and the success of Shadow and Bone (2021), Netflix continues to enrich its catalog of fantasy content by seizing a third successful saga with The School for Good and Evil. Expected for 2022, the film directed by Paul Feig (Spy, Ghostbusters) is the adaptation of the first novel in the seven-part series by American author Roman Chainani, which has sold 2.5 million copies. To interpret the characters of this revisited fairy tale, Netflix did not skimp on the means and offered a high-level cast. After playing an immortal mercenary in The Old Guard (2020) on the platform, Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron will play Lady Lesso, flamboyant redhead and ambassador of Evil in the saga. Kerry Washington (Scandal, Little Fires Everywhere), will be the delicate and scintillating Professor Dovey, dean of the School of Good. Among the teachers of the school, we will also find Laurence Fishburne (Morpheus in Matrix) and Michelle Yeoh (Tiger and Dragon, Star Trek: Discovery).

Inspired by the heroes and intrigues of the Brothers Grimm as much as Disney characters, The School for Good and Evil returns to the genesis of the duality between good and evil in a setting similar to that ofHarry potter. The story takes place in Endless Woods, a fictional and magical place where the School of Good and Evil is located, a sort of Manichean Hogwarts training its young recruits to become either good fairies or great baddies. The two heroines of the saga, Sophie and Agatha, played by Sophia Anne Caruso and Sofia Wylie respectively, will put their friendship to the test by discovering their fate within the school. While Sophie thought to join the ranks of Cinderella and Snow White of this world, and Agatha already saw herself as an intractable witch, it is finally the opposite that they are offered when they enter school. If the film were to meet a success as resounding as the book, it could well be that the platform does not stop there and tackles the whole saga …
