Brendan Gleeson Reveals Why He’s Reuniting With Joaquin Phoenix – MMA Fighting

Sitting with the stars of Martin McDonaghthe next black comedy The Banshees of InisherinCNET editor-in-chief Steve Weintraub was able to evoke one of Brendan Gleesonother future projects. Between discussions of the Irish Civil War and Banshees ensemble cast, we were curious how writer-director Todd Phillips‘ the sequel to his Oscar-winning film Joker on Gleeson’s radar. What marked him in the sequel?

A little over a month ago, it was reported that In Brugge the star was chosen alongside the Oscar winners Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga in the Phillips Suite Joker: Madness for Two. The psychological musical reunites Gleeson with co-star Phoenix for the first time since they worked together on M.Night Shyamalanit is The village in 2004. At that time, the plot and character details of Madness for Two are still being kept under wraps, so it’s unclear who Gleeson will portray in this alternate Gotham universe. Besides Phoenix as Arthur Fleck aka Joker, Gaga’s Harley Quinn and Zazie Beetz reprising her role as Sophie, Arthur’s neighbor, we are still a little hungry for this sweet information.

As a fan of the reimagined Phillips, a sort of realistic take on Batman’s nemesis, Weintraub wanted to know what the final push was, that irresistible deciding factor regarding the material, that led Gleeson to board the production for Madness for Two. Surprisingly, it wasn’t the most pleasing script, but rather the Emmy Award winner who had this to say:

“It wasn’t the hardware, which is a great way to avoid having to answer questions about the criteria. It was the culmination of the first film. I have already worked with Joaquin on The village… And so I knew him from then on. And this performance, I am still in awe of her. This performance as the Joker, in this first film. It was one of the most amazing accomplishments I’ve ever had. And for Todd to have – worked the film to allow for that, I didn’t have to wonder twice. I really didn’t.”

There’s no doubt that Phillips’ bizarre and dark return to Gotham will elicit an equally massive response from the public, but Gleeson slyly avoided giving up any juicy details in favor of praising his co-star from there. a long time ago and the visceral response the film received from fans. In 2020, Phoenix’s performance as an impoverished comedian falling apart as his life unfolds around him earned him several awards, including Best Actor of the Year. The film itself earned eleven nominations and also managed to land Best Original Score, surpassing Christopher Nolanit is The black Knight for most nominations for a motion picture based on a comic book.

The Irish actor has starred in a number of acclaimed feature films including Martin Scorseseit is New York Gangs, Brave heart and Ridley Scottit is kingdom of paradise. One of Gleeson’s most notable roles is that of Alastor “Mad-Eye” Moody in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. His role as Winston Churchill in the dramatic biopic In the storm won Gleeson a Primetime Emmy Award.
