The press officer of the singer of Simply the Best announced her death on Wednesday (May 24, 2023), revealing that the artist had passed away at the age of 83 at her home in Zurich, Switzerland, following a “long illness”.
Reacting to the news, Beyoncé wrote on her website, “My beloved queen. I love you infinitely. I am so grateful for your inspiration and all the avenues you opened. You are strength and resilience. You are the embodiment of power and passion. We are all lucky to have witnessed your kindness and your beautiful spirit which will remain forever etched in our memories. Thank you for everything you have done.”
Diana Ross told her Twitter followers she was “shocked” and “saddened” by Tina Turner’s death. “I send my condolences to the family and loved ones of Tina Turner,” she added.
Elton John shared a photo of himself and the singer on Instagram with these words: “We have lost one of the most exciting and electric artists in the world. A true legend on record and on stage. She was untouchable.”
In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Angela Bassett, who was nominated for an Oscar for her portrayal of Tina in the film What’s Love Got to Do With It (1993), said, “I am honored to have known Tina Turner and to have helped bring her to the world. Today, as we mourn the loss of that iconic voice and presence, she has given us more than we could have asked for. She gave us her whole person.
